Exposure Profiles Due to Potential Contamination of Drinking Water

Expert Services 1 smIn a number of cases, Omni has developed exposure profiles for individual plaintiffs due to alleged contamination of drinking water. These cases require an evaluation and understanding of the individuals' historic potable water use, as well as the potential contaminant history in the water supplied to the individuals. Advanced water distribution system simulation modeling was conducted along with extensive data analysis and evaluation of water system distribution facilities.

Chemical Migration from Wood Treating Facilities

In these cases, Omni has completed hydrologic and water quality analyses to determine whether and to what extent chemicals used at wood treating facilities may have migrated from the site to the surrounding environment.

Contaminant Migration from a Landfill

In this case, Omni served as a court-appointed expert to assess whether a previously-operated landfill was serving as the source of contamination for surface waters downstream of the landfill. This work involved an understanding of the hydrologic pathways for contaminant migration in the surface and ground waters in and around the landfill, and the possible contaminants that could have emanated from the landfill.

Remediation of Environmental Contamination

In these cases, Omni was asked to identify individual parties' responsibility for contaminant presence in the environment. These cases required an assessment of the potential for various contaminants to have been derived from particular parties' waste or activities, and the fate of such potential contaminants in the environment.

Contaminant Migration in the Environment

ChemBox smallIn these cases, Omni was asked to provide an expert opinion regarding the frequency, movement and fate of contaminants, particularly PCBs, which may have been released in discharges from a gas compressor station and an industrial facility. Omni's analysis required an understanding of the possible history of releases, the mechanisms through which contaminants may have traveled, and the fate of contaminants that may have been discharged from the sites.

Chemical Distribution in Ground Water Supply Systems

This study investigated the potential for certain chemicals to have been present in water supply systems throughout southern California where ground water is a primary source of water supply. It was necessary to identify the contaminant and production history for many water supply wells in many water supply systems, and to consider whether and to what extent contaminants may have been distributed throughout individual water supply systems. This study required simultaneous evaluation of the facilities of multiple local and regional water supply systems.
